Trisha Tanis, PhD
Practicing in Cascade

Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Trisha Tanis is a Licensed Psychologist in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In her work, it is her fundamental goal to cultivate a space that feels safe and accepting. She emphasizes collaboration- recognizing that you are the expert on your life, and that your experiences should be honored to facilitate deeper understanding of yourself. Her approach to therapy is grounded in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, and relational modalities, and she approaches assessment in a multi-method and comprehensive way. Ultimately, she believes insight into your patterns of experiences can facilitate insight and healing, and allow you to challenge old patterns to foster lasting growth.
“I would feel honored to walk beside you on your own path of self-discovery and healing. Your experiences should be valued, and I seek to provide an empowering space for you to deepen your understanding of self without judgement. Further, I emphasize an authentic working relationship as paramount to creating safety to explore thoughts that are hard to face alone. We can all use a bit of help at times, and I’m excited to help you identify what meaningful change could look like for you.”
Trisha completed her PhD at the University of Detroit Mercy in 2022, and has mental health experience in academic, community, and university counseling center settings. In addition to individual psychotherapy, Trisha works with couples, and is passionate about psychological assessment. Trisha grew up in rural West Michigan, and outside of work enjoys spending time outdoors, time with her family, and crafts.
