Counseling can feel like an intimidating prospect, sharing your heart and mind with a stranger in hopes of finding something better, something different. Sarah provides a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, where you can safely be yourself and share the different pieces of your story while bringing new tools and resources to help you get to where you want to go.

Sarah’s own story primarily starts in Grand Rapids, but has led to living in the villages of Central Europe to the old cities of the Middle East and Asia, Florida suburbia, and now back again to Grand Rapids over the last 20 years of her career. She has a Masters in Counseling, centering primarily on teen, women, and family issues, is a Child and Adolescent Trauma Professional (CATP), and also has a Masters in Theological Studies. Depending upon the needs of the client, Sarah may apply any variation of integrated therapies, theories, or techniques such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral (TF-CBT/CBT), Person centered, Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused (SFT), Narrative, Gestalt, Play/Creative Therapies, Transactional Analysis (TA), or Family Systems, and will tailor your care with your learning style and personality to reach your goals. She can also provide faith based counseling upon client request.

Sarah volunteers for various international trauma programs, training community leaders in underserved countries to help children at risk, and often speaks at organizations for a variety of mental health concerns such as suicide prevention and anxiety/depression. But most of the time she’s a cardigan and chucks wearing, coffee refilling (and spilling), bread baking, ukelele strumming, backroad driving book nerd who loves spending quality time with imperfect people willing to take a chance on living an abundant life.
