Sara Lynema, PsyD
Practicing in Grandville
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
Making the decision to reach out for help can be difficult and finding the right therapeutic fit is important. Dr. Sara Lynema is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has been practicing in Southwest Michigan since 2010. She works to see each client as an individual and sets goals with clients that address each person’s story with consideration of their life history, biological factors, psychological symptoms, relationships and spiritual/religious context in mind. In clinical practice, she especially enjoys working with adults seeking help for symptoms related to relationship and marital issues, grief and loss, spiritual questioning, and with survivors of abuse, neglect, or trauma.
“I often start with assessing the factors that brought someone to therapy. No one is a formula, so identifying the context that brought someone to treatment is an important piece. Once we can be oriented to what has happened, we can begin to look at where we are going. Frequently, when people begin to find new ways to connect — or re-connect — to themselves, we are also naturally drawn to connect in healthier ways to others. I know healing has been taking place when we can see the results in several areas. Clients will start reporting improvement in how they feel but also notice improvements in their marriages, work, parenting, etc. It is an honor to walk through that journey alongside my clients.”
Dr. Lynema earned her BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan, a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Professional Psychology, and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology through Wheaton College. Her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral training was completed through Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services in Grand Rapids Michigan. Additional continuing education training has focused on trauma response and treatment, mindfulness, Christian Theology, and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. Her previous research experience has focused on treatment options for married couples and presenting on a program designed to reduce post-traumatic stress in military service members and their families. She participates with most insurances.
