Practicing in Cascade

Monica Willson

Monica received her Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena CA. She has specialized training in the areas of individual, couple, and family therapy. Since beginning her practice in 2012 Monica has had the privilege of working with diverse populations in a variety of settings in South Central Los Angeles, CA and more recently in Grand Rapids, MI. Through her range of experience, she has maintained a commitment to providing a strengths-based, culturally sensitive, non-blaming, collaborative and creative space where healing and change can take place.

Monica’s treatment philosophy is grounded in understanding that our relationships have the potential to bring our greatest joy and deepest pain, our belonging and our isolation. She believes that this profound potential is rooted in all human beings. This potential creates the possibility for the work of healing relationships to reduce the pain of suffering and provide a path toward meaningful change.

Monica practices primarily from Restoration Therapy and Contextual Therapy. Through careful assessment, she works to elicit critical insight into individual psychology and family patterns, existential facts, and relational responsibility unique to each person. Through this work, individuals, families, and couples are able to work through unresolved conflict, isolation, mistrust, and the effects of destructive coping toward self and others. Monica’s work is also influenced by Mindfulness traditions, Neurobiology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Psychodynamic, and Attachment based theories.
