Cynthia Schroeder Rodriguez, PhD
Practicing in Cascade
As a clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience in working with children, women, and families, I help folks navigate the stresses of modern family life. I believe that young people often need help building skills for managing emotion, tolerating stress and frustration, solving problems, and connecting with others in meaningful ways. Good therapy can help individuals become more calm, kind, and resilient. My clinical approach is collaborative (involving children and their parents in flexible ways) and integrative (I draw from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, and family systems perspectives). Depending on the needs of each individual and/or family, we work together to decide on an effective plan of action.
A graduate of Hope College, I earned a PhD in clinical psychology at Loyola University Chicago in 1989 and did a child clinical internship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago. While living in the Chicago area I worked as a staff psychologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and at Ravenswood Community Mental Health Center (Child and Adolescent Unit), where I also supervised psychology interns and externs. Since moving with my family to Grand Rapids in 2001, I have practiced in several outpatient settings. A member of the American Psychological Association, I have also served as Secretary for the Michigan Psychological Association since 2017. I have two grown daughters and live in the Grand Rapids area with my husband and a spirited cat, Willow.
