Alison Hester

Receiving her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University’s Family Institute in Chicago Illinois in 2014, Alison has extensive theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience providing marriage and family therapy. Alison has four years experience working in the community, providing guidance, support, and resources to help individuals remove constraints, improve relationships, and engage with their surroundings with more intent and confidence.

Alison specializes in family counseling, couples therapy and individual therapy built upon an integrative, systemically-oriented perspective. Alison strives to maintain the creative and dynamic process of therapy, utilizing theory and interventions from multiple models of therapy; Alison works primarily with cognitive-behavioral, structural, and narrative models of therapy with influences from neurobiology, attachment, and self-psychology theories.

Areas of experience include: anxiety, depression, anger, coping skills, self-esteem, life-stage transition/life coaching, trauma/PTSD, parenting and child behavior, peer relationships, academic underachievement, communication, relationship issues, learning disabilities, and child and adolescents within the context of family. She enjoys working with all ages of children, youth, and their families.

Alison is committed to creating a therapeutic environment based on collaboration, skill building, action-oriented interventions, and honest, supportive feedback. Alison enjoys creative pursuits such as gardening, poetry, and refinishing furniture. Alison has always been invested in the well-being of self and others and believes it is a privilege and blessing to be a part of the mental health community.
